Ice Queen

"Ice Queen" is the coolest-blooded track on City Lights, a mid-tempo R&B piece built around an image of unreachable composure. The production leans synthetic and glassy: crystalline bell-tone synths in the high register, a deep round sub-bass, crisp programmed snaps, and a chord progression that keeps resolving downward, giving the whole thing a descending, drifting quality. There's a deliberate temperature to the mix — lots of reverb tail, very little warmth in the midrange, so the arrangement itself feels cold to the touch. Baekhyun sings it with more grain than "UN Village," pressing into his chest voice on the verses before floating up in the chorus, and the vocal stacking on the hook creates a chorus-of-one effect that reads as loneliness rather than power. The lyric is fascination with someone emotionally frozen: the narrator drawn precisely because she withholds, aware that admiring the ice is not the same as being let in, and unwilling to stop.
