Wretched Workers (Hades)

Asphodel doesn't want you comfortable. The Wretched Workers track moves with a lurching, syncopated rhythm — off-kilter, vaguely mechanical, like something built to run has been miscalibrated by heat and time. There is a raw, almost confrontational guitar presence here, closer to punk than to anything orchestral, pressing forward with an energy that reads as frustration barely contained. The melodic elements that surface feel ironic in context: too bright, almost cheerful in a way that undercuts the chaos around them, the sonic equivalent of whistling in the dark not because you're brave but because silence would be worse. Korb captures the particular misery of labor without end — not dramatic suffering but the dull, grinding indignity of doing the same thing forever in a place made of fire and ash. The production stays loose at the edges, slightly distorted, as though the recording itself is sweating. This is music that would play over images of people shoveling, never asking why, never remembering that there was once a reason. You listen when you need the honest soundtrack for a bad day, not comfort — just acknowledgment.
