"Just Like Honey" opens with the sound of something already in motion — a drum machine pulse and a guitar figure that arrives drenched in reverb, sweet and slightly corroded at the edges simultaneously. Jim Reid's vocals are a study in detachment: flat, nearly affectless, delivered as though the emotional content has been processed several times before reaching the listener and lost some of its urgency along the way, which paradoxically makes it feel more intimate rather than less. The feedback is present but restrained here compared to what follows elsewhere on the record, a wall of controlled noise functioning as a kind of emotional padding — protective and enveloping at once.
