행오버 (Hangover)
싸이 (PSY)
PSY and Snoop Dogg together is a premise that could have been a disaster, but "Hangover" commits so completely to its bit — the wreckage of the morning after, rendered in vivid and slightly disgusting detail — that it earns its ridiculous charisma. The production is huge and brash, a cross between American party rap and the kind of Korean trot-influenced bombast that PSY had already weaponized on "Gangnam Style." Snoop's verse slides in like he was born to be on exactly this track, bringing a West Coast laze that contrasts amusingly with PSY's manic energy. The song is less about drinking than about the communal ritual of it — the specific Korean drinking culture that involves noraebang and pojangmacha and the particular intimacy of people getting very honest together very fast. There's something almost anthropological about it, a document of a social practice delivered as entertainment. Coming off the global phenomenon of "Gangnam Style," this was PSY leaning into international curiosity about Korean popular culture and meeting it on its own terms. Put this on pregame, at the very start of an evening that is clearly heading somewhere regrettable and wonderful.
