Faizal Tahir's "Adrenalin" is exactly what its title promises and slightly more interesting than that promise suggests. Built on driving rock guitars and a chorus engineered to be shouted back, it belongs to the Malaysian rock lineage that runs through the Nashville-loud production of late-2000s regional pop-rock — big compressed drums, layered guitars, a mix that leaves no air anywhere. Tahir sings it with the particular grain of a vocalist trained on ballads who's decided to push into the red: his upper register strains audibly, and the strain is the appeal. The lyric traffics in the language of surge and pulse, of a body outrunning its own caution, and it works because Tahir commits to the physical metaphor rather than diluting it into vague uplift. He came up as a reality-competition winner and spent years shaking off that origin's polish; songs like this are where the shaking happens, where the studio gloss gets deliberately roughed up. It's the sound of someone testing how much force a pop chassis can take. Play it loud in a car with the windows down, or at the gym where its architecture is frankly obvious — it was built for exactly that, and doesn't pretend otherwise.
