"Guerrilla" is the sound of a group deciding to be a rock band for four minutes. Live guitars are front and center — a serrated riff, real cymbal wash, drums recorded with room and grit — and the arrangement borrows the loud-quiet dynamics of nu-metal and hardcore rather than trap's tension-and-drop grammar. The chorus is a shout in unison, more crowd than choir, and the bridge collapses into near-silence before the last assault. Hongjoong's writing here is unusually explicit: this is a protest song about a world that has stopped working, about refusing a system that asks you to be quiet and productive, and the vocal performances carry actual anger rather than performed intensity. Mingi's return to the group after his hiatus gives his verses a documentary weight. Jongho's final belt is less a flex than a scream. Coming in 2022 as the opening statement of THE WORLD trilogy, it announced that the group's story had turned political, and it converted a great many rock listeners who assumed K-pop couldn't sound like this. Play it when you're furious and need the fury to have a shape — cleaning a room violently, lifting heavy, or walking out of somewhere for good.
