"Work Hard, Play Hard" is Wiz Khalifa's stadium-sized shrug, engineered by Stargate to be as frictionless as possible — a booming, mid-tempo trap-pop beat with an anthemic chant, cavernous 808s, and a hook designed to be yelled by ten thousand people who have already had four drinks. Wiz raps in his familiar unbothered drawl, more cadence than content, cataloguing weed, wealth, jets, and the earned right to enjoy them. The thesis is right there in the title, and the song refuses to complicate it: the grind justifies the excess, the excess proves the grind. Where his mixtape work had a stoner looseness, this is fully professionalized crossover product, arriving after "Black and Yellow" made him a radio fixture and O.N.I.F.C. tried to convert that into permanence. The video's Wiz-as-priest-baptizing-the-club conceit made the arena ambitions literal. It's not a deep record and doesn't pretend to be — its function is to raise the ceiling on a room, which it does reliably twelve years later. Perfect at a graduation party, a tailgate, or the first hour of a night out, when nobody wants to feel anything more complicated than momentum.
