"Making a Fire" is joyful in a way that feels earned rather than performed — a clapping, communal stomp built on acoustic handclaps and a lead guitar line that has the easy confidence of a band with nothing left to prove. The production is deliberately stripped back for Foo Fighters, trading the monolithic amplifier walls of their harder material for something warmer and more immediate, like a fire-lit rehearsal room where everyone is playing for the pleasure of it.
