"Blueming" is the bright, kinetic center of *Love Poem* and one of IU's most purely fun productions. It runs on a clipped funk-pop groove — dry guitar chops on the offbeat, a bouncing bass figure, crisp programmed drums, handclaps, synth stabs that pop in and out — all mixed tight and forward with very little reverb, so it feels like it's happening in the room. The hook rides a rhythmic vocal pattern more than a big melody, and IU delivers it with a light, percussive attack, syllables snapped off, ad-libs tumbling over the ends of lines. The conceit is a pun stack: blue as in the message bubble, blooming as in feelings opening, and the lyric is entirely the texture of a text-message crush — typing and deleting, staring at the screen, the interpretive labor of a delayed reply. It's one of the most accurate songs about modern courtship anyone has written, and it's specific enough to be funny. IU co-wrote it, which shows in the conversational phrasing.
