Interpretation

"Lemonade" is the most gleefully unhinged track on *Sticker* and arguably the purest expression of NCT 127's chaos instinct. It opens with a warped, sour synth motif — deliberately unpleasant, pitched like something souring in real time — over a beat that stutters and reassembles itself between sections. The arrangement refuses to settle: half-time drops, abrupt silences, a bass tone that sounds physically corroded. Nothing about it is designed to be comfortable. The lyric leans hard into its central conceit, using the sweetness-from-sourness idiom as a swagger flex rather than a life lesson: turn the bitter thing into something you can serve. Delivery is rap-forward and aggressive, with Mark and Taeyong attacking the beat in clipped, percussive bursts while the sung parts function more as texture than melody — hooks built from repetition and attitude rather than tune. It sits within a lineage of SM's "difficult" B-sides, tracks engineered to reward the listener who has already accepted the group's weirdness. It performs enormously well live, where the sonic hostility reads as energy. Put it on when you need something abrasive to move to — a gym set, a walk taken too fast, the moment before you have to do something you're dreading.
