The piece unfolds in continuous motion — a right-hand figure that flows without interruption, like actual water, while harmonic changes beneath it give the sense of moving through different currents. What distinguishes it from Einaudi's wave pieces is a quality of internal variety: the flow is constant but not uniform, speeding slightly in places, widening in others, the melody surfacing and submerging within the texture. The orchestral elements are woven in gradually — strings first as sustained pads, then more actively — until the full sound has the depth and complexity of an actual river system viewed from above. The emotional experience is of being carried rather than propelled, of surrendering to a current that knows where it's going even if you don't. There's something almost hypnotic in the repetition, but it's the hypnosis of natural processes rather than mechanical ones: the difference between a conveyor belt and a tide. This is music for the long middle portions of journeys, when the initial excitement has passed and the destination isn't yet in sight, when you've given yourself over entirely to the movement itself.
