What Winston Rodney achieved with "Marcus Garvey" was less a song than a summoning — a musical act of historical reclamation that stripped away everything decorative and left only the essential. The production is almost brutally spare: a bass line that moves like tectonic plates, percussion that echoes in the space between beats, minimal harmonic ornamentation. Rodney's voice doesn't so much sing as intone, each syllable carrying the weight of a man who has decided that the truth requires no decoration.
