There is a particular quality of light that appears in northern Europe in early summer — horizontal, golden, lasting impossibly long into the evening — and this track captures it in synthesizer form. Opening with lapping, aquatic textures that suggest both the surface of still water and the particular resonance of a large, reverberant interior space, it builds gradually, almost imperceptibly, until a bass sequence locks in with a gentle but insistent groove. The palette is dominated by blues and silvers in a purely synaesthetic sense — there is something inherently cool and translucent about the chord voicings, a quality of looking through rather than at.
