Ryan Lee West, recording as Rival Consoles, builds from a central modular synthesis palette that by 2016 had become his signature: synthesizer lines that snarl and breathe as if alive, processed through filters that give them texture rather than polish. The rhythm is driving in a way that bypasses the dancefloor entirely and goes straight for the nervous system — four-on-the-floor in structure but too dense in atmosphere to function as club music.
