Interpretation

Yoasobi built this on the group's usual foundation — Ayase's dense, hyperkinetic composition and Ikura's crystalline soprano — but tuned toward maritime imagery, the title meaning something like "at the mercy of the sea." The arrangement moves in the classic Yoasobi manner: piano figures tumbling over programmed drums, key changes that arrive faster than pop convention allows, a chorus that keeps climbing past where you expect it to resolve. Ikura sings with that distinctive combination of technical precision and emotional urgency, her upper register clean and unstrained even at speed, delivering syllables in the rapid-fire clusters Japanese pop rewards. The lyric essence is drift — being carried by currents beyond your control and finding, if not peace, then a kind of surrender in that. As an anime opening it does the required job of a ninety-second adrenaline arc, but the melancholy underneath is real: the sea metaphor cuts against the tempo, motion without direction. Yoasobi's whole project began as novel-to-song adaptation, and that narrative instinct persists here — this feels less like a mood than a compressed story. Good for morning commutes when you need momentum but not cheerfulness, or for the specific pleasure of a song that's brighter on the surface than underneath.
