Wolves Against the World
Powerwolf
Where many Powerwolf songs lean into the gothic-liturgical, this one opens its throttle wider and runs toward something rawer — an anthem built on galloping double-kick rhythms and a riff that recalls the stadium-ready power metal of early Manowar filtered through European excess. The tempo is faster and more aggressive than much of their catalog, the guitars locked into a rhythmic pattern that mimics the feel of a cavalry charge. Choirs appear but are pushed back in the mix, lending the track a slightly leaner silhouette. The emotional core is defiance and solidarity — the wolf-pack as metaphor for outsiders, outcasts, and night-dwellers who refuse to be hunted. There is genuine conviction in the delivery, Attila Dorn's voice more forceful and less theatrically mannered than on some of their slower hymnal pieces, which gives the song an unusual sincerity beneath the melodrama. Lyrically it positions the pack against an unnamed "world" that has tried to exterminate it, so there is a survivalist energy — something that resonates with anyone who has ever felt like they were on the wrong side of the dominant culture. It fits perfectly in a festival crowd where thousands of people who feel exactly that way have found each other for a weekend. Play it during a late-night drive when the roads are empty and you need something that confirms you belong exactly where you are.
