The Men
"Electric" strips the mythology out of rock energy and delivers the current directly. The track operates on momentum — once it starts moving, it commits without flinching, the guitars generating friction rather than melody, the rhythm section locked into something almost mechanical in its forward drive. The Men here are channeling the brutalist efficiency of Television or early Wire while keeping the song visceral rather than cerebral: this isn't angular post-punk so much as punk that learned a few things and didn't let the learning soften anything. The vocals cut through the surface rather than floating on it, the delivery ragged at the edges in a way that signals genuineness rather than performance. There's a short-circuit quality to the production — nothing is buffered, every element pressing directly against every other.
