Come From Away
Come From Away's most structurally daring sequence places a Muslim man, a Jewish woman, a Christian, and others in simultaneous prayer — different words, different rhythms, different gods, the same longing. The arrangement does not smooth these traditions into a comfortable interfaith blend; instead, it layers them in careful counterpoint, each tradition maintaining its own melodic shape while threading through the others. The result is something that should feel dissonant and instead feels like harmony in its deepest sense — not agreement, but coexistence. The voices carry the specific weight of people praying in extremity, post-9/11, when faith itself had been weaponized and these people found themselves stranded among strangers who might misread them.
