Interpretation

"when you left" is potsu at his most structurally restrained, which makes it one of his most emotionally direct works. The production strips away almost everything except a looped guitar figure — slightly muffled, slightly bent in pitch, as though the instrument itself is reluctant to stay in tune — and a drum pattern so sparse it functions more as punctuation than rhythm. The effect is exposure: without layers to hide behind, the melodic phrase has to carry the full emotional content of departure, and it does so by repeating with a kind of obsessive stillness. There's a low hum beneath the surface, barely audible, that adds a physical dimension to the grief — you feel it more than hear it. The track never builds toward release; it simply persists in its state, which is exactly how certain kinds of loss operate. This is not a song about the dramatic moment of leaving but about the hours and days after, when the absence becomes a presence of its own. It fits the lo-fi hip-hop canon's approach to heartbreak as ambient experience rather than cathartic event. Listen to this alone, at night, when you're not trying to process anything but can't stop anyway.
