Much Ado About Nothing (Much Ado About Nothing)
Patrick Doyle
Patrick Doyle brings a warmth to this theme that is distinctly different from Marianelli's cool, considered palette — there is something more openly joyful here, less guarded. The orchestration is lush without being heavy, strings and woodwinds interweaving in a way that suggests conversation, banter, people talking over each other in the best possible way. The melodic line is genuinely tuneful — memorable in the way folk songs are memorable, as if it might have always existed. Underneath the brightness, though, there is a current of something more tender, a sweetness that acknowledges the cost of wit and pride before love can land. The tempo has a light-footedness that suggests movement — dancing, or at least the feeling of dancing, of lightness in the body. It belongs in late-summer afternoons, in gardens or anywhere with the particular quality of golden-hour light through leaves.
