"Grandloves" is Purity Ring at their most melodically generous, a song that opens outward rather than folding inward like much of their catalog. Featuring vocals from Danny Brown, the track creates a fascinating tonal juxtaposition — Brown's serrated, hyperactive delivery colliding and somehow harmonizing with James's ethereal float, two wildly different approaches to the human voice occupying the same sonic space without either dominating. Roddick's production is expansive here, with synth arpeggios that ascend rather than burrow, giving the track a quality of reaching toward something.
