The title is a decoy. There is nothing soft about this. Show Me the Body use the language of intimacy — closeness, stillness, the slow tempo that implies tenderness — to deliver something that feels more like a confrontation than an embrace. The banjo here has an almost unbearable tension in it, notes held just past their natural resolution, creating a sustained discomfort that melodic instruments rarely achieve without devolving into chaos. The drums are sparse but precise, each hit deliberate and slightly too loud for what surrounds it. The vocal delivery is low and controlled, which makes it more unsettling than a scream would be — it's the sound of someone speaking directly to you from a distance that shouldn't allow that kind of directness. Lyrically the song circles the body as site of both vulnerability and resistance, examining what it means to be present in skin in spaces that treat presence as a provocation.
