The presence of a human voice here reorients the listener's relationship to Arnalds' sound world. The string arrangement, when it arrives, doesn't resolve this tension so much as witness it. This sits within the quieter, more song-shaped territory of Arnalds' 2020 album, which was written and recorded during a period of personal difficulty, and that authenticity of feeling is woven into the music's fiber. It is for the kind of exhaustion that follows not physical effort but emotional labor — the 2am moment when pretending you're okay becomes genuinely impossible.
