There's a sweetness here that never tips into saccharine because the production keeps it grounded in texture — the synth lead has a slight fuzziness to it, the bass is round and present, and the rhythm section swings just enough to keep everything human. NewJeans sing about the particular paralysis of attraction: knowing exactly what you want to do, being completely unable to do it, and finding a kind of delight in that helplessness.
