A frenetic burst of nervous energy from *Contra*, Vampire Weekend's tightest and most caffeinated track. Ezra Koenig's vocals are clipped and precise over a production that sounds like a tennis match — rapid guitar stabs, punchy drums, Rostam Batmanglij's arrangement allowing almost no space to breathe. Lyrically it namedrops Revolutionary War imagery and family drama with the same weight, which is the point — everything urgent, nothing sacred, everything racing. The cultural texture is distinctly prep-school-in-decay, a world where privilege is beginning to show its age. At under two minutes it functions almost like a punk song in sensibility if not sonics. It's the kind of track that makes you move even if you're sitting down, the rhythm insistent enough to feel almost physical. Best experienced at high volume while running late for something that probably doesn't matter as much as it feels like it does.
