Ironbound

By the time Overkill released *Ironbound* in 2010, they had outlasted most of their contemporaries and the title track arrives as a statement of continuing purpose — harder, heavier, and arguably more accomplished than much of what they'd recorded twenty years earlier. The production is enormous: modern in its sonic weight without sacrificing the band's characteristic grit, guitars tuned to crush while maintaining clarity, the rhythm section sounding genuinely massive. Bobby Blitz's vocals have evolved over the decades into something remarkable — the high shriek now complemented by genuine dynamic range, his phrasing carrying the confidence of a singer who knows exactly what he's doing. The track moves with a momentum that earns the album title: inexorable, bound in iron, difficult to stop once in motion. Lyrically "Ironbound" is about persistence and identity — the band writing about their own survival in genre terms that also speak to broader themes of stubborn continuity against all odds. The guitar work of Dave Linsk is exceptional throughout, his solo sections moving with melodic intelligence rather than pure speed. What distinguishes this track from career-celebration nostalgia is that it genuinely sounds vital rather than nostalgic — Overkill in 2010 was a better band technically than in 1988, and the song demonstrates that evolution without apology. For the listener who dismissed Overkill as a second-tier eighties act, this is the corrective.
