"I Dream" announced 15& — the duo of Park Jimin and Baek Yerin, formed at JYPE — as a vocal showcase first and a pop act second, and Denzil Remedios' production reflects that priority, the arrangement opening space for the two voices to do their work rather than competing with them. Both singers were teenagers when this was recorded, and the performances carry the quality of prodigious talent that has not yet fully settled into itself — technically extraordinary and emotionally earnest in the way that youth allows before experience introduces irony and self-protection. The harmonies are constructed to contrast the two voices: Jimin's rounder, more powerful delivery against Yerin's lighter and more precise timbre, the combination producing a warmth neither could generate alone. Lyrically the song inhabits the aspirational register of K-pop debut material — the dream as both object and mode of being, something reached for and also the state of reaching — but the vocal commitment elevates the material past its genre conventions. There is something genuinely affecting about hearing two very young people sing about reaching for something large with this level of feeling and technical command, before the careers diverged and the future was entirely open.
