Midland built their entire aesthetic on a deliberate paradox — neo-traditional honky tonk executed with modern studio precision and self-aware craft, and "Drinkin' Problem" is the cleanest expression of that project. Mark Wystrach's vocal has the smooth baritone confidence of classic country leading men, technically proficient in ways that foreground rather than obscure the genre's pleasures.
