Netsky
By the third album Netsky had moved more deliberately toward mainstream electronic music structures — shorter track runtimes, cleaner vocal hooks, a production approach that prioritized immediate accessibility without entirely abandoning the liquid DnB foundation. The result is his most commercially coherent record and, for certain listeners, his most compromised — though the argument that it represents a legitimate artistic development rather than a capitulation is supported by the quality of execution throughout. The emotional register has clarified and simplified: less bittersweet ambiguity, more direct positive affect, the slightly uncomplicated emotional weather of music designed to meet wide audiences where they already are. Production techniques have shifted — heavier use of side-chain compression, drums that punch rather than roll, bass higher in the mix and more prominent. The album works best understood as Netsky accepting that his audience had grown beyond the room he began in and choosing to build music for the room he now occupies, rather than continuing to make the same record for an audience that had itself changed. Culturally it represents a strand of DnB that has always existed — the pop-facing tendency, the genre's ongoing negotiation with its own accessibility problem — now fully realized by one of its most articulate practitioners, without pretense about what it is.
