Power Andre

Silica Gel operate in a Korean art-rock space where krautrock repetition, shoegaze haze, and something jagged and electronic keep colliding, and "Power Andre" is the collision at its most gleeful. The riff is blunt and motorik, a locked groove that refuses to develop, while synths corrode at the edges and the guitars sound like they've been fed through something broken on purpose. The vocal is deadpan, half-buried, delivered with the affect of someone reciting an incantation rather than singing — that peculiar Silica Gel flatness that makes the absurdity land harder. Lyrically it's less narrative than mantra, a name repeated until it detaches from meaning and becomes pure sound-object. The band emerged from Seoul's indie underground and became the rare Korean act to build a genuine cult on strangeness rather than polish, and this track is a load-bearing piece of that reputation — the one that turns live rooms into something feral. Best encountered loud, ideally live, ideally with the volume past the point where you can parse individual instruments. Alone with good headphones it becomes a study in texture; in a crowd it becomes a body thing.
