Named for Swift's satirized floating island — and weighted with Miyazaki's parallel vision of a civilization suspended between past and sky — "Laputa" is Hiatus Kaiyote at their most deliberately dreamlike. The track drifts on guitar harmonics and keys that feel genuinely weightless, Bender contributing melodic counterpoint rather than rhythmic anchor, the drums evaporating into texture. Nai Palm's voice is gentler here than almost anywhere else in their catalog, less acrobatic, folding into the instrumental environment rather than leading it.
