The emotional register is explicitly about the intersection of physical and emotional pain — the Vicodin reference contextualizing the tears as pharmaceutical, the hills as the particular geography of a medicated mental landscape. The production is expansive and analog-warm, the strings given unusual prominence so they dominate the midrange while piano and organ occupy lower registers. Culturally, this is post-rock instrumentation with neo-Romantic ambitions — My Bloody Valentine's sonic approach applied to Romantic-era emotional intensity. Best experienced at high volume through speakers that can handle sustained low frequencies.
