Echoes in Rain
Enya
From the 2015 album *Dark Sky Island*, "Echoes in Rain" opens with a figure that has followed Enya throughout her career—water as time, precipitation as memory returning. The lyrics position rain as a medium through which the past resurfaces, voices and images carried back on weather. The production employs some of her most textured layering: vocal harmonics that split and recombine, strings that swell slowly from near-inaudibility, an unhurried tempo that gives each syllable weight. Her voice is slightly lower in register than her peak-era recordings, and the additional depth suits the retrospective quality of the material. "Echoes in Rain" belongs to a meditation on impermanence that characterizes much of *Dark Sky Island*—the title album itself named for a location where light pollution is absent enough to see the stars clearly, where natural phenomena reassert priority over human noise. There is acceptance here rather than resistance: the rain comes, carries what it carries, and the singer receives rather than pursues.
