"INVU" takes its title from a piece of internet shorthand — I envy you — and builds an entire aesthetic around jealousy as an archery metaphor. The track is cool, spacious synth-pop: a dark, elastic bassline, trap-adjacent hi-hat rolls under a mid-tempo groove, plucked synths that ring like struck glass, and a chorus that gets quieter and more tense rather than exploding. Restraint is the design principle here; the drop is a whisper. Taeyeon sings much of it in a controlled, slightly detached tone, close-miked and dry, before opening into her signature soaring lines in the bridge — the contrast makes the emotional break land harder than volume would. The lyric turns unequal love into a hunt: she's the one who keeps drawing the bow, always giving more, envying the person who gets to be loved without having to earn it. It's a sharper, more self-aware position than the pure devotion of her earlier ballads. Released in 2022 as the title track of her third album, its Cupid-and-arrow visual language and understated choreography made it one of her most stylistically complete eras. Good for headphones on a night walk, when you want to feel elegant about resenting someone.
