"EVERYTHING" is The Black Skirts at their most unguarded, a synth-washed love song from an album explicitly framed as a gift to one person. The production is plush and slightly retro: warm analog-sounding pads, a bass that sits fat and rubbery in the pocket, drum machine tucked low, and guitars that shimmer rather than strum. Everything is smeared in a soft-focus reverb that makes the song feel like a memory of itself. Jo Hyu-il sings in a low, close-miked murmur with almost no vibrato — the sound of someone talking into your ear rather than performing — occasionally slipping into English phrases that land as intimate rather than decorative.
