The texture becomes more transparent — strings return to a simpler version of the central ostinato, Sanders plays more sparsely, Shepherd's electronics settle into quiet patterns of harmonic suggestion rather than assertion. This is the meditative hollow at the center of the storm, the moment of stillness that gives the surrounding movements their emotional context. There is something deeply musical about this decision: the kind of judgment that comes from genuine compositional wisdom, knowing when to release the tension accumulated over previous movements and knowing how to do so without abandoning the harmonic world that makes the suite coherent.
