Interpretation

"Corners of the Earth" features RY X, an Australian singer whose voice carries something genuinely elemental — a rawness that sounds like it costs something to produce, a falsetto that never quite loses the roughness that gives it character. ODESZA constructed an appropriately vast frame: the track is among their most ambitious productions, building from intimate beginnings through multiple expansion phases until it occupies something close to orchestral scale. The lyric reaches toward the edges of known territory, geographic and emotional, the corners where ordinary maps run out. There is a specific loneliness in the track that is not sad exactly — more like the solitude of exploration, the feeling of having gone somewhere no one has been before and finding it beautiful and unreachable simultaneously. From "A Moment Apart," it functions as emotional climax, the track that earns the album's grandest gestures through accumulated restraint in the preceding material. Worth hearing at full volume in a space large enough for it — a car on an empty highway, or somewhere genuinely remote, where the sky has enough room.
