Supermoon

65daysofstatic treat electronics not as backdrop but as weather — "Supermoon" exists inside a particular kind of compressed, luminous sonic atmosphere where programmed drum patterns clatter against guitar lines that have been fed through enough effects processing to have lost their acoustic origin. The Sheffield band operates in the fertile middle space between post-rock and electronic music, and this track is one of their more effective arguments for the synthesis: the drums are clearly sequenced but carry emotional momentum, the guitars are distorted but melodically coherent, and the result sounds like a live band playing inside a machine or a machine dreaming of being a live band. Emotionally "Supermoon" has the quality of witnessing something overwhelming from a distance — a gravitational event happening too far away to threaten you but close enough that you can feel the pull. The production is dense in the mid-range, with a slight crunch that gives it physicality without weighing it down. There are no vocals and no need for any; the track's arc — gradual accumulation, controlled peak, measured release — is its own argument. Best suited to late-night driving on empty roads where the sky is doing something dramatic and you are small beneath it, which is probably what the title already told you.
