Following the impossible-to-top global phenomenon of "Gangnam Style," PSY returned with "Gentleman," a track that doubles down on the playful anti-hero persona while pivoting from horse-dance spectacle to a new kind of choreographic mischief. The production is deliberately club-ready — a bouncing, four-on-the-floor electronic foundation with a horn-sample hook anchoring the track in the international pop-EDM crossover moment of 2013. The emotional register is pure comedy operating through committed performance: PSY plays a man who claims gentlemanly status while the video depicts him being spectacularly ungentlemanly — pulling chairs from under women, knocking over coffee, lifting skirts with casual impunity. The song's cultural joke works on multiple levels, engaging with Korean concepts of male courtesy only to systematically dismantle them. The "Mother father gentleman" refrain — a clean radio edit of something more explicit — became one of pop's great euphemistic hooks.
