Hur Jin-ho's 1998 film is one of Korean cinema's quietest masterpieces — a story about a dying photographer who falls in love with a parking enforcement officer, the entire tragedy held at surface level while something enormous accumulates beneath — and Jo Sung-woo's score achieves exactly the restraint the material requires. The main theme is built primarily around piano, melodically simple, the kind of tune that feels like it was always there rather than composed.
