"Vuelie" exists in a different category from the rest of the *Frozen* soundtrack — less a Disney pop song than a genuine piece of Sami-influenced choral music, composed by Frode Fjellheim drawing on the traditional joik vocal form. Cantus's performance brings an authenticity to the sound that no theatrical ensemble could replicate: the tight, luminous Nordic choral blend, the specific vocal technique of joik which involves a kind of tonal meditation rather than conventional melodic singing, the sense of something ancient and genuinely spiritual being channeled through contemporary performance. The piece opens the film before any dialogue, establishing a sonic world that the rest of the score will only partially return to — this is the sound of Scandinavian landscape itself, or the closest music can approximate it. There are no lyrics in any conventional sense, only vocables and tonal patterns that mean through sound rather than semantic content. The production is minimalist by design — the voices are the instrument, with only light orchestral support gradually entering. Culturally, the inclusion of this piece represented a deliberate effort by the filmmakers to acknowledge the Indigenous Sami traditions of the Scandinavian region being depicted. As a listening experience it functions as threshold music — something that shifts register between ordinary consciousness and the narrative dream space the film inhabits.
