Completing the trilogy that began in 1999, "Anthem Pt. 3" arrives decades later with a self-awareness the original songs couldn't have carried — the band now inhabitants of the same adulthood they once held at arm's length. Production on ONE MORE TIME... generally brings Tom DeLonge's sonic sensibilities back into the arrangement, and this track showcases that reintegration: the guitars have a familiar shimmer, the harmonies land in the register the trio used to own. Lyrically it completes a long arc — the anthem framework originally celebrating youth and refusal and the particular freedom of not yet being anything specific, now revisited by people who became specific and survived it. There's genuine humor alongside genuine feeling, which has always been Blink's most distinctive capability: the ability to be both earnest and self-deprecating simultaneously without each quality undermining the other. The callback structure rewards longtime listeners with the pleasure of recognition while remaining accessible to those arriving without context. Culturally it represents the band closing a loop with the care it deserves — not abandoning the past but returning to it with accumulated knowledge. Best heard having listened to the preceding installments, ideally in a car that knows some mileage, the windows down.
