Off My Face
Måneskin
Looser and more languid than Måneskin's harder cuts, Off My Face sways with the disoriented warmth of infatuation — that state where another person becomes a kind of intoxicant. The production breathes, guitar lines curling lazily over a rhythm section that leans rather than pounds. Damiano's vocal takes on unusual vulnerability here, the swagger softened into something almost tender, almost reckless in a different register than usual. There's a psychedelic tinge to the arrangement, a fuzz at the edges that mirrors the lyrical territory: being so consumed by someone that ordinary perception warps at the edges. The Italo-rock sensibility is present but quieter, less theatrical, the band stretching into a more moody, atmospheric register than their anthemic material. It's a late-night record, something for headphones when the world outside has gone quiet and you're thinking about someone you probably shouldn't.
