Timecop1983's "Static" is synthwave working in its melancholy dialect rather than its neon-chase one. Everything is soaked in chorus and tape hiss — the hiss is the point, the title's static, the texture of memory degrading. Where much of the genre reaches for Miami and cocaine and chrome, the Dutch producer reaches for the drive home, the empty parking lot, the friend you no longer speak to.
