I.T.T. builds its groove from a descending bass figure that locks immediately into the kind of repetition that stops time. The horn section enters in waves, Fela's saxophone cutting through the ensemble in declarative phrases that feel like testimony. The track is a satirical indictment of multinational corporations extracting African wealth — the chorus refrain of "International Thief Thief" is simultaneously absurdist and precisely accurate. Fela's Pidgin English delivery is sardonic and theatrical, a performance of accusation that somehow makes righteousness feel joyful. The Africa 70 rhythm section drives the track with athletic precision, the drums and percussion forming a grid that the horns and vocals move freely against. Production is characteristically live and slightly rough, which only increases the sense of urgency. Culturally it remains one of Afrobeat's most politically explicit works, naming specific companies and behaviors. Excellent for political and sonic education simultaneously.
