Interpretation

One of the more unexpectedly playful entries in the Bottomless Pit sequence, this track deploys a kind of sardonic resignation—the title itself being the most non-committal possible response, a shrug rendered in sound. The production is still recognizably Death Grips territory: dense, percussive, uncompromising in its refusal of warmth. But there's a quality of almost comedic excess here, as if the intensity is being self-consciously pushed into absurdity. MC Ride's phrasing has moments of rhythmic humor that typically get lost in discussions of the group's aggression, and this track makes it more legible than most of their work. Bottomless Pit across its runtime engages with a kind of creative crisis—what happens after you've built a following on transgression and the transgressive is now expected? This track sounds like it might be addressing that question through its own title, offering a culturally appropriate non-answer to the demands of self-surpassing. The vocal approach is unusually percussive, Ride treating syllables as drum hits more explicitly than usual. Difficult music by conventional standards, but within the Death Grips ecosystem it reads as something close to light relief—which says something specific about the emotional range this group inhabits.
