My Treasure
TREASURE
"MY TREASURE" is the pivot — TREASURE stepping out of the shouty debut mode into bright, guitar-driven pop-rock, and finding a personality that suited them better. The production is built on a jangling clean-guitar riff, a bouncing bassline, live-feeling drums, and a chorus that opens wide and sunny, closer to 2000s pop-punk-adjacent K-pop than to the trap of the earlier singles. It's unabashedly warm. The lyrics are addressed outward to the listener — you are my treasure — a fan-song conceit that could be cloying but lands because the delivery is unfussy and grinning rather than reverent. Vocally it plays to the group's strength in bright, clean upper-register tone, with Jihoon, Doyoung and Junghwan carrying the hook and the rappers stepping into more melodic territory than usual, which softens the group's edges productively. Released in January 2021 into a pandemic winter, it functioned as a deliberate mood-lifter and became the group's most enduring early track precisely because of that generosity. It's spring-morning music: commuting with sun on the window, cleaning an apartment, walking somewhere you're happy to be going. Uncomplicated on purpose, and better for it.
