pushin P (feat. Future & Young Thug)
Gunna
A meme that happened to be a great record. Gunna built "pushin P" around a beat that barely exists — a woozy, pitched-down chime figure from Wheezy, Turbo and Mario Luciano over sub-bass so low it registers as pressure rather than pitch, plus a snare that arrives late and lazy. Nothing is urgent. Gunna's whole aesthetic is decadence delivered at a whisper, and here his voice slurs and melts across the bar, half-singing, dragging vowels until words dissolve into texture. Future enters with his familiar codeine-blurred authority, and Young Thug's verse is the record's chaos agent, his voice leaping registers, yelping and then dropping into a growl. The lyric essence is a coded vocabulary lesson: P stands for player, for positivity, for a way of moving through wealth without embarrassing yourself — and the song's genius was refusing to define it, which sent the internet into weeks of exegesis and turned a blue P emoji into a language. Released January 2022 on DS4EVER, it captured the last golden moment of the YSL circle before the RICO indictment landed months later. It's music for the passenger seat of an expensive car, sunglasses on, moving slowly on purpose.
