"SOS" is ABBA at their most quietly devastating, a 1975 track that hides heartbreak inside a pop machine so bright it took decades for people to notice how sad it is. It opens with that unmistakable descending piano figure — almost a music-box lullaby in minor — before Agnetha Fältskog enters alone, singing verses in a hushed, close-miked, almost conversational register.
