A declaration of rank, and the production knows it. "Asiwaju" — Yoruba for leader or vanguard — is built on a strutting, mid-tempo groove with heavy percussion, an insistent bass figure, and horn-like synth accents that function as fanfare. Ruger raps and sings in alternation, his rasp harder here than on his romantic material, and he stacks Yoruba, pidgin, and English into lines that move too quickly to be fully parsed on first listen. The subject is dominance: over rivals, over doubters, over the version of himself who had nothing. There's a specific Nigerian flavor to the boasting, where success is framed as vindication of family and neighborhood rather than pure individualism, and where the title carries political weight the song both borrows and mocks. The energy is combative but celebratory, closer to a victory lap than a threat. As part of the project that established him as a headline act rather than a hitmaker, it functions as a thesis statement. Play it walking into a room you were once excluded from, or in a gym, or in a car with the windows down. The drums are mixed to be felt in the chest.
